Premiere: Watch the new video from ¡Que Asco! for ‘Sharkipelago’

Cardiff art-rock trio Que Asco are about to release a new single ‘Sharkipelago’, out digitally on October 4th, and we’re delighted to be premiering the accompanying video here on Backseat Mafia today. It’s taken from their debut album Reaper, out on Maiden Voyage Records

Switching endlessly and inventively between wiry aggression and slacker indie rock, there’s more than a whiff of the likes of Nirvana, Sonic Youth and (in particular) Pavement, in that they write incisive and engaging pop songs and wrap them up in a sourness and angst that makes them grab you and hold your attention.

The accompanying video, featuring a man dressed as a shark on the side of a reservoir, is similarly angst ridden, at least from his point of view. It’s infused by the sort of Gruff Rhys humour almost expected of the Welsh counter-culture (well, certainly not mainstream). Brilliant stuff.
