Track: Empire of the Synth: Nick Littlemore and Ladyhawke Drop First Teenager Single in 18 Years

Teenager

It’s been almost two decades since Teenager first emerged from the fringes — a fever dream of synths and side-street electro-pop helmed by Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun, PNAU) and Ladyhawke (aka Pip Brown). Now, the cult project is officially back with Fourteen, a long-awaited sequel to their 2006 debut Thirteen, and a fresh single ‘A.A.’ that glows with just the right amount of heartbreak, neon, and nostalgia.

While both artists carved out monumental careers on their own — Littlemore shaping the face of electronic pop with Empire of the Sun and PNAU (not to mention production credits for Elton John, Dua Lipa, Troye Sivan and Cirque du Soleil), and Ladyhawke earning a devoted global following with her self-titled debut and beyond — the creative spark between them never truly died.

Written across continents, time zones and years, Fourteen is the sound of two artists finding their way back to the strange, ecstatic frequency they once shared. ‘A.A.’ is the first transmission — a dizzying cocktail of dark lyricism, glossy hooks, and wide-screen euphoria that plays like a sunrise comedown in fast-forward.

If Thirteen was the underground blueprint, Fourteen is its shimmering, more wounded successor. And if ‘A.A.’ is any indication, Teenager are no longer just ahead of their time — they’re right on cue.
