Track : ‘Ensoul’ from Ambient Jazz Ensemble – One for the contemplative soul

Ambient Jazz Ensemble share the atmospheric and bewitching new single ‘Ensoul’ due out May 11th, the first single to be shared from upcoming album London Fields due out July 8th via Here & Now Recordings

AJE is the passion project of acclaimed composer, writer and producer Colin Baldry. Baldry’s previous works can be found on a vast and impressive string of iconic labels such as RCA, Geffen, Motown, Virgin & Capitol Records, whilst arranging and conducting The BBC Concert Orchestra and The City Of Prague Philharmonic. Whilst his other works sit across cinematic compositions, Ambient Jazz Ensemble sets to tell a story, painting a scene as opposed to accompanying one, through ambient electronic, contemporary / nu-jazz and experimental and has received support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, Mojo, Hospital Records and Cafe Del Mar.

Lead single ‘Ensoul’, meaning to cherish within the soul, is an ambient, electronic track that utilises felt piano and the vocal interjections from Lynsey Ward. The single was birthed whilst Baldry was experimenting with the grand piano, fitting various grades of felt with gaffer tape and pipe cleaners between the hammers and strings of the piano. Colin adds “The correct velocity of playing was critical but the sound was worth the effort”. In the track’s final stages, Baldry encouraged vocalist Lynsey to release her ‘inner Kate Bush’, bringing a human touch to the single, giving it an identity which befits the title.

The full album London Fields is out July the 8th via Here and Now Recordings.
