Sydney-based pop duo FOLEY continue to refine their partnership with CINEMATIC, the first taste of a new EP titled Like An Actress. Following the release of their 2025 sophomore album That’s Life, Baby!, Ash Wallace and Gabe Everett open the year by leaning into a more tactile, band-driven approach while holding onto the melodic clarity that has defined their recent run.

Recorded in Aotearoa, New Zealand with collaborator Josh Naley, CINEMATIC blends bright pop and electronic textures with a more measured lyrical delivery. The track focuses on the early stages of a relationship, capturing the tension between excitement and disbelief, where affection feels heightened and moments are immediately romanticised. Rather than undercutting that feeling, the song chooses to sit with it, allowing uncertainty and optimism to coexist.

Sonically, the single reflects a broader shift across Like An Actress. FOLEY describe the EP as being written with live performance in mind, incorporating piano, acoustic guitar and live drums to create a more physical studio process. That approach gives the songs a looseness and warmth that distinguishes them from earlier work, while keeping the duo’s pop instincts intact.

The EP builds on themes that have long shaped FOLEY’s songwriting, including love, loss, identity and change, but presents them in a way that feels more integrated with the music itself. With mixing by Pedro Calloni and mastering by Nathan Dantzler, CINEMATIC serves as a clear entry point into a project focused on cohesion rather than reinvention.

Following strong momentum from HONEY, which topped the Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles chart and led New Zealand radio adds, FOLEY’s steady growth continues across both sides of the Tasman. Like An Actress positions the duo not as a departure from what’s worked, but as a natural extension of a collaboration still finding new angles.
