Holly Hebe’s rise from Melbourne underground favourite to one of Australian indie pop’s brightest prospects continues apace. The singer-songwriter has unveiled new single ‘Crying Your Eyes Out’, while simultaneously announcing her third EP, Mood Ring, and a six-date Australian and New Zealand headline tour presented by triple j.
Produced alongside Dennis Neuer, whose credits include Milky Chance, ‘Crying Your Eyes Out’ pairs euphoric indie-pop production with an emotional core that explores the loneliness lurking beneath late nights and crowded rooms. Drawing on the same blend of intimate songwriting and dreamlike textures that has seen comparisons drawn to Clairo, Oklou and Mallrat, the track captures the tension between distraction and heartbreak.
“This song is about distracting yourself from heartbreak with nights out, loud music, playing shows and meeting strangers,” Hebe explains. “It’s about seeking out environments where you are physically surrounded by people, chaos, lights and music as some form of bandaid solution, and then crying about how lonely you are deep down.”
The release also serves as the latest preview of Mood Ring, due July 17, with the accompanying headline tour set to include Holly Hebe’s first-ever New Zealand headline performance as part of Live Nation’s NEXT ON initiative. Support on all dates will come from Sammi Heaney.
Already boasting more than five million streams worldwide, official showcases at SXSW Austin and SXSW Sydney, and support from triple j and major streaming platforms, Hebe has steadily built a reputation as one of the country’s most compelling new voices. Recent tours with Aleksiah and appearances alongside Holly Humberstone, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, The Dreggs and The Rions have only accelerated her momentum.
With Mood Ring on the horizon and another deeply personal single added to her catalogue, Holly Hebe is rapidly outgrowing any notion of being Melbourne’s best-kept secret.
