More than a decade after one of the defining electronic remixes of the 2010s, Lykke Li and Belgian producer The Magician have reunited. Their new collaboration sees The Magician reimagine ‘Lucky Again’, transforming one of the emotional centrepieces of Lykke Li’s latest album The Afterparty into a luminous slice of melodic house.

The reunion carries considerable weight. The Magician’s remix of ‘I Follow Rivers’ became a global phenomenon, surpassing one billion streams and evolving from an indie favourite into one of the most enduring dance records of its generation. Rather than attempting to recreate that success, ‘Lucky Again’ finds the pair building on the chemistry that made their first collaboration so memorable.

Originally one of the most intimate moments on The Afterparty, ‘Lucky Again’ reflects on finding hope after heartbreak. The Magician reshapes the song with warm piano lines, shimmering synths and uplifting house rhythms, allowing Lykke Li’s unmistakable vocals to remain firmly at the emotional centre while giving the track a fresh sense of momentum.

The remix arrives during another significant chapter in Lykke Li’s career. The Afterparty has been widely praised for its cinematic songwriting and emotional candour, while renewed attention has been drawn to her catalogue after Drake interpolated ‘I Follow Rivers’ on ‘Janice STFU’, earning Lykke Li her first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 as a credited songwriter and introducing one of her signature songs to a new generation.

For The Magician, the release continues a career that has consistently blurred the boundaries between indie music and the dancefloor. Since launching his solo project after co-founding Aeroplane, he has become one of electronic music’s most respected tastemakers through acclaimed releases, his influential Magic Tape mix series and performances at Coachella, Tomorrowland, Printworks London and Elsewhere Brooklyn. His recent work has included collaborations with Purple Disco Machine and A-Trak, while further projects with Nico De Andrea, Moscoman and JØRD are set to follow.

The remix also marks the beginning of a broader campaign that will see producers from across the electronic spectrum reinterpret songs from The Afterparty, opening Lykke Li’s deeply personal songwriting to a series of fresh creative perspectives.
