Track: Never the ‘Cool Kid’ – Boorloo/Perth’s Joan & The Giants release the effervescent indie pop single ahead of Australian tour

With a deep melancholic vein running through the expressive, effervescent bounce of ‘Cool Kid’, Joan & The Giants have crafted a pop delight that marries melody and vitality with a sense of yearning.

The lyrics are clever and wry – covering the anxieties and frustrations of coming out – if I were a boy would you like me better, would I get to meet your mother? Singer Grace Newton-Wordsworth’s vocals are absolutely divine with a mix of Dolores O’Riordan from The Cranberries, Sharon Van Etten and Phoebe Bridgers sailing across a jangling synth-edged instrumentation and a euphoric chorus that would wake the soulless and the dead:

Heady intelligent pop of the highest order. ‘Cool Kid’ is out now and available to download and stream here.

Joan & The Giants are undertaking a massive Australian tour – details below.
