San Francisco-bred duo chokecherry — vocalist/guitarist Izzie Clark and vocalist/bassist E. Scarlett Levinson — have released their new single Secrets, accompanied by a video directed by Jack Boston.
Written partly in Clark’s Los Angeles apartment before being finished in the studio with producer Christopher Grant (Glassjaw, Around Around Around), the track captures a moment of transition. Clark describes it as reflecting a period of upheaval: leaving San Francisco after six years and confronting the shift of building a new life elsewhere.
Levinson adds her own perspective, linking the song back to San Francisco’s grip on the band. Born and raised in the city, she describes Secrets as a balance between escape and attachment: the longing to leave behind what feels heavy, while still recognising the imprint of Fog City on their music and lives.
That connection is literally audible in the outro, which includes recordings of trains from the city.
The single arrives after chokecherry’s recent tour with Wavves, and ahead of their first North American headline run, beginning November 14 in San Francisco and running through December 21 in Salt Lake City.
