Track: Stella Donnelly releases new track ‘Flood’

Stella Donnelly

Stella Donnelly has just released a new single ‘Flood’ via Secret Canadian, which is off her upcoming album, set for release on the 26th August.

Donnelly has spoken about how ‘Flood’ was written during the Covid lockdown in Melbourne.

“This song feels like a sad little adventure. I wrote it in the dark depths of a Melbourne winter lockdown where it had been raining for consecutive weeks. Everyone around me was falling into their own version of depression at different times. It felt like a flood of trauma yet at the same time, we were given an opportunity of time to work through stuff that we’d been distracting ourselves with for so long prior to the pandemic.”

‘Flood’ has an accompanying video that was directed by Donnelly, Nick McKk and Grace Goodwin. The video focuses on activities on an idyllic summer’s day and according to Donnelly with the video the aim was to recreate the legendary OK GO video clip for ‘Here It Goes Again’ but according to her, “we failed gloriously.”

The song is a gorgeous, melodic indie pop romp, with the influence of that other Melburnian, Courtney Barnett quite apparent.
