Australian music veterans Tex Perkins and Matt Walker have unveiled ‘Maybe Tomorrow‘, the second single from their forthcoming debut collaborative album Before The Show, due for release on August 28 via Cheersquad Records & Tapes.
Following the first taste of the record with ‘It Always Can Get Worse’, the new single leans into a gentler, more reflective mood. Anchored by the bright chime of a 12-string guitar and warm vocal harmonies, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ explores the uncertainty that comes with looking ahead, finding quiet reassurance in accepting that not every question has an immediate answer.
That sense of openness runs throughout Before The Show, an album recorded with an emphasis on instinct rather than perfection. Produced in late 2025, the songs were written and recorded simultaneously, with Walker capturing the sessions using his mobile recording setup. Many of the performances are first takes, preserving the spontaneity and chemistry between two musicians whose creative relationship stretches back decades.
While Perkins and Walker have previously shared stages and studios through projects including The Fat Rubber Band and The Cruel Sea, Before The Show marks their first full-length album as a duo. The result promises an intimate collection built around storytelling, lived experience and the easy musical rapport that has developed over years of collaboration.
The pair will take the album on the road with an Australian tour running from September to November, where audiences can expect songs from Before The Show alongside carefully selected material from across their respective catalogues. Stripped back to guitars, voices and the stories behind the songs, the performances aim to recreate the direct, unvarnished atmosphere in which the album was made.
