Track: The radiant folk pop shimmer of ‘Colder’ heralds debut EP ‘Nothing Comes Free’ from Jo Davie.

Jo Davie has an illustrious academic background in music (having graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2017 with First Class Honours and the University Medal), but her new single ‘Colder’ is indicative of a glorious ability to deliver the sweetest sounds via her gossamer vocals and songwriting skills.

‘Colder’ positively sparkles with its lush instrumentation and sweet indelible melodies, threaded through with a warmth and emotion. The song:

…explores the feeling of how a relationship falls apart: from the first stages of uncertainty all the way to the days of healing, finding that something better blooms in the spots they left behind. It drives home that there’s a power in leaving, facing that fear of being alone.

It is a song filled with a sunshine melody and a brittle luminessence that reminds me of local artists like Nat Vazer and Juice Webster, and overseas artists like Phoebe Bridgers or Sharon Van Etten.

‘Colder’ is out now and available to stream here.
