BERLIN’S 7K! imprint, the ambient and modern compositional flipside to legendary dance label !K7, has signed a really rather gorgeous new pianist talent, Denmark’s Vetle Nærø – and he really is a cut above the studious solo masses, his music coming from the heart and full of nuance and absolute appreciation. You can hear that for yourself: go dive into his debut track for the label, “Waves”, down below.

With “Waves”, Vetle joins an incredibly strong stable over at the Berlin label, based as it is in a city pretty much at the forefront of modern and experimental classical music; he’s joining Hania Rani, Niklas Paschburg and Gabrìel Ólaf with a delicious and evocative take on the minimal strain of piano work, as “Waves” amply illustrates; you need no more words from me – listen.

We’re told both it and the following album, from which “Waves” is taken, chronicle an “unpredictable traverse across an emotional landscape” and follows Vetle’s self-produced album, By Heart.

Born in Oslo in 2000, Vetle moved to Ålesund aged 5, where he began studying piano, starting with classics such as Chopin and Rachmaninoff. He then discovered the forefathers of minimalism such as Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt, before turning his ear to the sounds of Yann Tiersen, Dustin O’Halloran, Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm – who released his first album when Vetle was aged just 9.

“Waves” is out now on all digital streaming platforms.
