There’s a rumour that Western Australia churns out these talented bands in factories, and they certainly don’t believe in overproduction. Off the back of last year’s sophomore EP ‘Party Friends’, the dynamically adroit surf rock trio Pretty Uglys have kicked off the new year with their latest offering, ‘Situation City’.

The track’s relaxed pulse is a notable contrast to previous work, but there’s familiarity in the warm, inviting textures that follow – richly reverberated vocals combining with nimble guitars to create that kaleidoscopic, coastal feel that the band have crafted so well. It’s a nifty and humble new single that shifts between clean distilled verses and fully charged hooks, with lyrical commentary on the state of the world as it seems to be.

The band says:

’Situation City’ is a song we’ve had for a while now, so it was super fun to get it in the studio. It was written around the time we moved up to Perth and the situations that occurred around that. It’s a much slower tempo than most of our previous stuff but still retains the energy everyone is familiar with, with a fuzzed-out chorus.
