Track: We Were Promised Jetpacks return with new single, ‘If It Happens’

Much loved (particularly by us here at Backseat Mafia) Scottish indie rock band We Were Promised Jetpacks have returned with a new single, If It Happens, ahead of the release of a new 7” featuring the track, coming out via Big Scary Monsters on June 29th.

Of the song, the bands lead single Adam Thompson explains “I feel that ‘If It Happens’ expresses a lot about what I had been trying to get across to myself. It was all part of my new mindset of trying to be more positive about what I have and not always thinking about what I don’t. It’s about embracing the idea of happiness, doing what you can to encourage it and generally be a lot more ‘c’est la vie’ about everything. If it happens, it happens; if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. What can you do?”

If It Happens pulls together all the qualities we’ve always liked about them – mixing up the melancholy with the optimistic, sonic guitar lines, earworm melodies and emotive harmonies. They may have moved a little since the amicable departure of founding member Michael Palmer back in 2019, but they’re still making essential music fifteen years in.
