Nottingham-based five-piece Vona Vella return with their radiant new single Bear Trap, out now via Strap Originals. With jangling guitars, infectious percussion and honeyed harmonies, the track recalls the kaleidoscopic charm of indie-pop’s celebrated C86 era while feeling effortlessly fresh.
Recorded at The Albion Rooms studio in Margate and co-produced by the band alongside Jason Stafford (The Libertines, Jamie T, Sports Team), Bear Trap sparkles with both vulnerability and euphoria. Co-lead vocalist Dan Cunningham explains the inspiration came from a grim stint working in a café:
“One of the lyrics is, ‘I’ve been coming down with a fever, but it’s my fever dream’, because I couldn’t wait to be poorly so I didn’t have to go in! I think that’s quite understandable to the majority of people.”
Already boasting over 130k monthly listeners on Spotify, Vona Vella have supported the likes of The Libertines, Peter Doherty, Tim Burgess, Morcheeba, and more, while making festival appearances at The Great Escape and Come Together.
