Ashnikko, the bubblegum hyper-pop provocateur from North Carolina, brought her SMOOCHIES Tour to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre twice over the weekend, delivering delectible DIY chaos that reminded us why she has become essential viewing both on and offline.
Fans dressed head-to-toe in costumed tributes to Ashnikko’s world, lace and buttons, handmade trinkets, elaborate pink-and-purple ensembles. Many camped outside the venue for hours, staking their spots at the barrier.
Robert Baxter beautifully enthused the crowd from opening doors, expertly voguing their way across the stage and prepping us for more gems to come.
Ashnikko rolled through all the anthemic tracks the crowd came for including: ‘STUPID’, ‘Slumber Party’, ‘Deal With It.’ Elaborate props and skilled backup dancers embraced Ashnikko’s handcrafted aesthetic and created a fully realised world.
