Live Review: Death Bells / Numb.er – Upstairs at Whelan’s, Dublin 01.03.2022

A touch of Los Angeles came to Dublin as two bands at least based in the city arrived at the upstairs venue at Whelans. Support band Numb.er, formed in LA by Jeff Fribourg did their engaging Dark Wave / Synthpunk thing to an appreciative crowd, and showed they have more than enough to pull in the crowds. Doused in red light throughout, the band left an impression on the gathered throng both in terms of image and the songs they performed.

Headliners Death Bells, who mix it up with post-punk and garage rock, were actually formed in Sydney, Australia before moving over to base themselves in LA. The band, on their first visit to Ireland, were touring their sophomore album ’New Signs Of Life’, out now on DAIS, and much of the set was taken from the record, much to the delight of the crowd.
