Live Review + Gallery: Steve Poltz delights The Longley International Hotel 02/04/2023, and takes Tasmanian guitar whiz, Pete Cornelius along for the ride

Canadian born folk troubadour, Steve Poltz, presented by Pitch Artist Agency, played a Sunday afternoon set at The Longley International Hotel. Despite a small, albeit enthusiastic crowd, Steve totally entertained everybody there with his wit, charm and talent. His stories from the road, and of his early life were highly amusing, and often had the crowd in stitches. He even opened the show with an ad-libbed song about The Longley International Hotel.

His ability to turn the disappointment of the small turnout into a highly successful afternoon was borne out when he called his support, Tasmania’s own blues whiz, Pete Cornelius back onto the stage, to do the last song with him, telling Pete the chords he would need to play the song. The pair started to play and the song quickly morphed into a recognisable version of Stairway To Heaven, but Steve began to sing the lyrics to Gilligan’s Island over the top. His showmanship was brilliant, and he had Pete laughing heartily as he drew close and began singing within inches of his face after having completed a set of hair flicks that any metal guitarist would have been proud, and playing while laying on the ground in the vein of Angus Young.

Steve’s tour continues, with an appearance at Byron Bay Bluesfest at Easter amongst other dates.
