Taken from their forthcoming EP, Work, out on Detail Records on December 4th, The Trouble With Us is the new single from Chet Faker and South London based DJ Marcus Marr. Seems an unlikely partnership, given that the Australian producer Faker lives in Brooklyn, but the pair met via Twitter. As Marr commented “Nick posted my song on Twitter. I messaged him and said thanks and a conversation started – all nerdy stuff about recording processes. Pretty soon we started exchanging song ideas in voice memos. He then suggested maybe we try and do something together.”
That something starts out with this winding, twisting funk(y) guitar, that goes onto have this off kilter feel with the emphasis always being off the beat. Throw in tactical loud/quiets/climaxes, some growling bass and disco house percussion and these boys are on to something. Best of all though is the modern blue eyed soul of the vocal, and a melody that is totally irresistible.
