New Track/Video: Fiery fusion ensemble M.CHUZI serve up ‘Mammoet’ – steamy multi-grooves from their soon come album ‘Papara’

You may have clocked the announcement on Backseat Mafia a couple of days ago about Stellar Legions debut release and Sdban Records Autumn offensive . In hot pursuit comes news of a second mighty push to keep the imprint’s jazz momentum rolling, the mega-octet M.CHUZI’s breakout LP ‘Paparadue 4th November.

Giles Peterson endorsed, this fiery global beat ensemble have already featured on Volume 2 of Sdban’s much respected ‘Lefto presents Jazz Cats’ series with their track ‘Tzatziki’. Standing out amongst the record’s comprehensive sweep through the best of new Belgian sounds, M.CHUZI’s contribution was a whirlwind of exotic vibes, post rock dynamics and snarling brass surges.

You’ll soon be able to catch Tzatziki once again as the opener on the band’s forthcoming debut and to raise anticipation for that record further, M.CHUZI have now released a second preview in the shape of the gargantuan rush of ‘Mammoet’. Earthily majestic, it’s a tune that opens with a stomping regal fanfare before slipping seamlessly into the grooves of an agile afrobeat hot-stepper. There’s a controlled Sons of Kemet heaviness in the mix plus a tensely stretched solo from trombonist Nabou Claerhout which leads the band triumphantly through a sumptuous closing samba.

Sounds multi-flavoured, well M.CHUZI can more than cope with the variety. Looks like some serious new players are about to enter the jazz fusion arena.
