It isn’t often that we get truly excited about a new release, but Melbourne’s hugely popular DIY garage-punks, Eddy Current Suppression Ring have dropped their latest long-player, the aptly named In Light Of Recent Events on a largely unsuspecting music world.

After teasing new tracks on their recent 3 day tour of Tasmania in late February/early March (live review here), the band moved swiftly to have their fifth studio album launched out into the stratosphere for an adoring fanbase to lap up.
Having already released the singles, Swimming Hole and Hard To Be Moved over the past 12 months, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, famous for their DIY work ethic, have released another collection of eleven tracks, including the two previously released tracks.
The album continues the band’s intermittent release schedule, coming 7 years after their last long player, All In Good Time back in 2019 and the three-song EP, Shapes & Forms last year.
Eddy Current Suppression Ring have been more active in recent times, with a massive show at Federation Square in central Melbourne back in September of last year, drawing a crowd rivalling that of the ill-fated Amyl & The Sniffers show at the same venue a couple of months later.
The three-show weekend in Tasmania, along with a few shows dotted around Melbourne in recent times have signalled the return to the forefront, albeit in their classic intermittent schedule.
A return to Sydney for the first time in fifteen years also beckons, with the band making a free live appearance at Vivid Sydney’s Tumbalong Nights on the 12th of June. Further shows for The Factory Theatre, Marrickville (July 3rd) and Brisbane’s Princess Theatre, Woolloongabba (July 25th) are also in the works.
The album, along with the rest of their catalogue, can be heard and/or purchased via their Bandcamp page, with vinyl copies available through all good record stores.
