Indiana singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Michael Paul Binz shares the Americana-rock fizzer ‘Plenty’.
The release arrives after Binz opened the year with the eight-track album LET IT BE, and ‘Plenty’ feels less like a reset and more like a continuation of that project’s raw, energetic edge. From its opening seconds, the single establishes a sense of immediacy. A tight, punchy rhythm section drives the track forward with a steady pulse, while layered guitars build momentum. The arrangement blends alt-country foundations with a broader, anthemic rock sensibility, giving the song both intimacy and a stadium feel.
At the centre of it all is Binz’s vocal performance, impassioned, slightly rough-edged, and deliberately unpolished in a way that heightens the emotional charge. Each chorus expands outward, rising into a refraining hook that carries a rebellious, almost celebratory tone. The energy feels less like restraint and more like release, leaning into cathartic songwriting that has become a hallmark of Binz’s recent work.
Lyrically, ‘Plenty’ plays with imagery that is both surreal and grounded in attitude. Binz frames the song’s theme in his own words: “When you find yourself in the backlot at the circus and know that the boss hostler and the ringmaster respect you because you gave them plenty. I find that I will find you, because good finds good, so good times!” The statement reflects a philosophy of reciprocity and momentum, where effort and energy return in kind. The circus imagery adds a theatrical, slightly off-kilter quality that matches the song’s larger-than-life arrangement.
Binz’s musical identity has been shaped by a wide range of influences. Born in Fort Wayne and now based in Westfield, Indiana, his early musical foundation came through saxophone and other wind instruments before he shifted toward guitar during the rise of the grunge era. That transition was shaped by the raw intensity of bands like Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots, influences that can still be heard in the weight and edge of his arrangements.
At the same time, Binz’s songwriting draws from more expansive and experimental rock traditions. The atmospheric layering and emotional build associated with Radiohead and the melodic craft and structural inventiveness of The Beatlesare woven into his broader aesthetic. These influences combine in a style that blends indie rock, folk, and alternative textures into a cohesive, emotionally driven sound.
Across multiple album cycles, Binz has developed a balance between high-energy, guitar-driven material and more reflective, piano-tinged writing. Percussion often serves as a stabilising backbone rather than a dominant force, leaving space for melody and texture to breathe. This contrast between urgency and introspection has become a defining feature of his work.
With ‘Plenty’, Binz continues that trajectory with a sharper focus on immediacy and impact. The single expands his established sound while reinforcing the emotional and musical identity he has been building, suggesting forward motion rather than pause, and momentum rather than resolution.
