News: Julian Roy Unveils Genre-Defying Debut Album ‘friends first’


Hailing from Virginia, Julian Roy is a musical virtuoso whose sound draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences, including Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, and The Beatles. Compared to the likes of Frank Ocean and Chet Faker, Roy breaks barriers with his genre-defying music.

His journey from teaching himself guitar in Thailand to launching his music career in Los Angeles mirrors his globe-trotting adventures, spanning over 50 countries. Roy’s music speaks a universal language, connecting individuals worldwide through love and compassion.

With collaborations with industry giants like Mike Posner and Lolo Zouai and acclaim for his debut EP “18 lbs,” Roy is set to make waves with his highly anticipated debut album, “friends first.”

Recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, ‘friends first’ is a reflection of Roy’s personal experiences and global travels, featuring a diverse array of influences from around the world. With 14 tracks spanning multiple genres, the album solidifies Roy’s position as a major player in the music industry.

Reflecting on the album, Roy shares, “friends first was recorded during and after COVID-19 in the middle of so much heartbreak and pain, during this time my father also passed away which shaped parts of the album. friends first has nine different producers, was recorded in Mexico, USA, Colombia, and Norway (three continents), and has seven featured artists.”

With ‘friends first’, Julian Roy invites listeners on a journey of self-discovery and connection.
