Darkwave trio Last Grasp share the atmospheric and expansive new single, ‘Creature of Your Kind’.
An intoxicating dive into the realm of desire and intrigue, the track’s murky soundscape matches the mystical feel of the vocals. Formed in 2021 by Florida-based artist Matthew DeFeis, Last Grasp expertly weaves the nostalgic allure of 80s and 90s goth with a fresh, modern edge. Drawing from the haunting chill of darkwave, the driving force of industrial, and the beautifully constructed riffs and reverb drenched guitar tones of shoegaze, DeFeis and longtime friend and producer Boris Stojanović create a sound which is at once dark and beautiful.
Haunting and experimental, the track carries an effortlessly cool edge thanks to its impressive soundscaping, capturing a floating yet captivating feel. Tight electronic beats pull the atmospheric wash of synth, guitar and understated yet surprisingly catchy vocals forward with a sense of purpose, while a pulsing electronic bass adds a subby depth.
Talking about the track, DeFeis shares: “This track came together seamlessly between Boris and me. We fell in love with the chorus immediately, and that feeling persisted as we worked.”
