More than four decades after emerging as one of Britain’s most innovative bands, Level 42 are finally heading to Australia. The legendary jazz-funk outfit have announced their long-awaited debut Australian tour for January 2027, performing their landmark 1985 album World Machine alongside a career-spanning collection of hits.

For Australian audiences, the tour marks the first opportunity to witness a band whose influence has stretched well beyond the charts. Blending virtuosic musicianship with irresistible pop songwriting, Level 42 became one of the defining British acts of the 1980s, selling more than 30 million albums while carving out a sound that effortlessly fused jazz-funk, sophisticated pop and progressive ambition.

At the heart of that success sits World Machine. Released in 1985, the album proved to be a watershed moment for the band, expanding their audience without sacrificing the technical precision that had earned them an early cult following. Decades later, it remains a cornerstone of British pop, celebrated for its immaculate production, intricate arrangements and infectious grooves.

Frontman Mark King remains one of the most distinctive bass players of his generation, with his dazzling slap bass technique becoming synonymous with the band’s sound. Combined with Mike Lindup’s soaring harmonies and the group’s remarkable chemistry, Level 42 built a catalogue that continues to resonate across generations.

The setlist will naturally draw heavily from the band’s greatest successes, with classics including ‘Lessons in Love’, ‘Something About You’, ‘Running in the Family’, ‘Hot Water’ and ‘Love Games’ sitting alongside the World Machinematerial that first propelled them onto the global stage.

For fans who have waited decades to see them perform, January 2027 finally delivers a long-overdue first encounter. One of Britain’s most influential bands is at last bringing its catalogue to Australian stages, celebrating an album that helped define an era while reminding audiences why its music has stood the test of time.
