Sydney’s Night at The Barracks is returning to North Head Sanctuary this September and October with one of its most expansive line-ups yet, turning the historic Manly site into an open-air stage for four weekends of Australian and international live music.
The fifth edition of the concert series will feature performances from Aloe Blacc, Ben Folds, The Temper Trap, Boy & Bear, The Cruel Sea, Magic Dirt, JET, Dave Gleeson, Sneaky Sound System, The Potbelleez, PNAU and Katie Noonan, alongside support performances from Lastlings, Charlie Collins, Wilsn, Alice Ivy, Lindsey Kraft, Georgia Fields and Birren.
The programme opens on 11 September and stretches across four weekends, once again leaning into the contrast that has helped define the series: major live acts performing against the sandstone and bushland backdrop of North Head. There’s a clear balance this year between legacy Australian names and contemporary crossover acts. Aloe Blacc’s appearance marks his first Sydney performance in seven years as part of his Wake Me Up tour, while Ben Folds arrives armed with both solo material and songs from Ben Folds Five.
Australian acts dominate much of the line-up. The Cruel Sea will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Three Legged Dog, while Dave Gleeson brings his Long Way To The Top show packed with material connected to AC/DC, INXS, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil and Powderfinger. Elsewhere, PNAU and Sneaky Sound System shift the atmosphere toward dancefloor territory with unseated performances designed more for movement than quiet observation.
What continues to separate Night at The Barracks from the increasingly crowded live-music calendar is its atmosphere. The event trades heavily on the uniqueness of its location, where concert lighting cuts through bushland and historic military buildings rather than stadium rafters or festival scaffolding. It’s a setting that feels deliberately removed from the city despite sitting right on Sydney Harbour, giving even large-scale acts a strange intimacy.
The organisers are also continuing sustainability initiatives introduced in previous years, including reusable aluminium cups, merchandise made from recycled materials and shuttle transport powered by electric buses. In a live industry still grappling with the environmental footprint of touring, Night at The Barracks is increasingly framing itself not just as a concert series, but as a long-term attempt to rethink how large outdoor events operate.
