News: Peter Hook & The Light Return to Australian Stages in July 2026

Peter Hook, the bassist behind Joy Division and New Order, is returning to Australia with his band The Light in July. The tour will mark the 25th anniversary of New Order’s ‘Get Ready’, with the album being performed in full. Alongside it will come a sweep of essentials from both the adored Joy Division and New Order catalogs.

Australian audiences haven’t had to wait long to hear these songs live. Hook and The Light returned last year to play ‘Substance‘ in full, and New Order themselves played the Sydney Opera House in November, making this upcoming tour part of a rich period for fans of both bands.

Released in 2001, ‘Get Ready‘ pulled New Order into a new era, leaning on collaborations with Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie. The album marked a creative renaissance for the band, featuring tracks like ‘Crystal’ and ‘60 Miles an Hour’. Speaking to us earlier this year ahead of the UK leg of the tour, Hook admitted he never expected the album to exist at all.

“When we did ‘Get Ready’, I really didn’t think we’d ever get back together,” he said. “I didn’t think we’d make another record. So I was very pleasantly surprised. It was me and Barney, more or less alone… Stephen and Gillian had other things on their plate, and whilst they did come down occasionally, it was very much the two of us. So it was like a honeymoon, without the sex!“

Hook has also long spoken about treating these albums as complete works, not just bundles of singles, and that’s the approach he and The Light bring to the stage. As Hook puts it about the distinction between his shows and current New Order performances, “Fans come to see us because they love the sound.“

The five-date tour will visit Adelaide’s Hindley St. Music Hall (July 13), Brisbane’s Tivoli (July 16), Melbourne’s Palais Theatre (July 17), Sydney’s Enmore Theatre (July 18), and Perth’s Astor Theatre (July 20). Each venue has been selected to provide an intimate atmosphere, allowing audiences to experience the full impact of both Joy Division’s post-punk intensity and New Order’s electronic innovation.

General tickets are available on Monday 15 September at 10:00 AM here.
