News: RTÉ Concert Orchestra to perform the songs of David Bowie at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin

Very few artists in the history of popular music have left such an indelible mark as David Bowie

On 9th February 2024, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra will be joined by three members of Bowie’s band — Gerry Leonard, Mark Plati and Sterling Campbell  — to honour his legacy, and play some of his greatest hits live at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. This is a single-night performance and is part of the annual Dublin Bowie Festival programme of events.

Presented by Singular Artists and adapted from the 2021 recording for RTÉ One television, Bowie: Starman — with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, this is the first time this show will be performed in front of a live audience, and will feature specially commissioned arrangements of classics like Life on Mars, Heroes, Starman, Changes and Space Oddity as orchestra and artists combine to salute one of the most imaginative, influential and iconic musicians of our times.

Guitarist Gerry Leonard is the Musical Director of this show. In addition to Bowie, the Dublin native has played with people like Rufus Wainwright, Laurie Anderson and Suzanne Vega, who he tours with regularly.

Mark Plati has played guitar with all-time rock ’n’ roll greats like Lou Reed, The Cure, Fleetwood Mac and Robbie Williams.

Drummer Sterling Campbell has worked with the B52s, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Cyndi Lauper.

A remarkable line up of Irish and international artists, yet to be announced, will complete this once in a lifetime performance not to be missed.
