News: Singer-Songwriter Clarity Liao Shares New Single ‘Make Up Your Mind’

Emerging singer-songwriter Clarity Liao continues to carve out a distinctive place in contemporary pop with the release of her fourth solo single, ‘Make Up Your Mind’, a bright yet emotionally charged track that captures the tension of mixed signals and the quiet strength required to walk away from uncertainty.

The new single arrives at a pivotal moment in Liao’s evolving career. After years spent honing her craft as both a songwriter and performer, she first gained wider recognition as the principal songwriter for the band Navillera, whose debut single ‘Too Young’ earned the 2024 Yamaha National Best Popular Music Award. Her reputation as a rising compositional talent was further cemented in 2025 when her song ‘I Need You’ took first place in the YMS National Composers Competition.

Now stepping fully into the spotlight as a solo artist, Liao is preparing to release her forthcoming EP, Dear…, a deeply personal collection of songs that explores love, jealousy, loss, and longing through a framing device of emotional “letters.” Each track is designed as a message left unsent, forming intimate snapshots of feelings often left unspoken in real life.

Her musical influences span a wide emotional and sonic spectrum, drawing inspiration from artists such as Bruno Mars, Adele, Regina Song, and Olivia Rodrigo. That blend is increasingly evident in her work, which expands beyond her early indie-pop foundations into a broader palette incorporating bedroom pop, R&B textures, modern doo-wop, and sleek contemporary pop production.

At the heart of this latest release, ‘Make Up Your Mind’ channels a universally familiar emotional limbo: waiting for someone who refuses to choose.

“‘Make Up Your Mind’ was inspired by my frustration of being given mixed signals by someone who seemed interested, but never fully committed,” Liao explains. “The song is a letter about waiting while knowing deep down that the situation is going nowhere. It is about wanting honesty, but also realizing you cannot keep holding onto someone who will not choose you.”

The track came together quickly after Liao heard an early demo from producer and co-writer Ken Fielder. A bright acoustic guitar motif and buoyant mid-tempo rhythm immediately shaped the song’s direction.

“The phrase ‘make up your mind’ came almost instantly,” she recalls. “From there, I wrote the lyrics to match that feeling of uncertainty and emotional frustration, keeping everything direct and honest.”

Despite its emotionally conflicted subject matter, ‘Make Up Your Mind’ is defined by its uplifting production. Built on crisp acoustic textures, rhythmic momentum, and an infectious pop sensibility, the song reframes heartbreak as something energetic, cathartic, and empowering.

It also marks a key milestone in Liao’s creative development, her first co-writing experience with a producer. The collaboration, she says, opened up a new dimension in her songwriting process.

“What makes this track especially meaningful to me is that it brought out a more playful, girly side of my sound,” she says. “It was also my first time co-writing with my producer, and I really loved the collaborative process. That experience made the song feel even more personal and exciting to create.”

As anticipation builds for Dear…, ‘Make Up Your Mind’ offers a clear window into Liao’s artistic direction: emotionally direct, melodically driven, and unafraid of vulnerability. Across her recent releases, she continues to shape a voice rooted in honesty and self-awareness, transforming personal experiences into universally resonant stories.

With each new track, Clarity Liao is steadily establishing herself as one of the most promising young voices in modern pop, an artist whose songs feel less like performances and more like carefully written letters addressed straight to the heart.
