Melbourne/Naarm indie-pop artist Tilly Fenton has released her new single It’s You! and confirmed details of her debut EP it’s a feeling that i know, set for release on 10 October.
Written during a session with producer Anna Laverty, the track flips the phrase “it’s not you, it’s me” into a defiant hook, with Tilly describing it as “a vengeful yet cathartic song.” Produced alongside Michael Belsar and drummer Ben Ellingworth, It’s You! blends pop-rock with cheeky, sharp-edged lyrics inspired by Olivia Rodrigo and early Miley Cyrus.
The single arrives with a live performance video filmed in an empty theatre, directed by Jesse Richards. “The concept came from the idea of performing to no one but yourself,” Fenton explains. “It’s dramatic but also freeing — like dancing in your bedroom when no one is watching.”
As the closing track of her forthcoming five-song EP, It’s You! follows earlier singles The Secret and Valentine. Across the record, Fenton explores the confusion and intensity of teenage years, balancing vulnerability with hope. “This EP is a coming-of-age story,” she says. “I wrote these songs while navigating overwhelming moments, but always with a sense of hope that everything will be ok.”
Fenton, who sold out her first headline show at The Bergy Bandroom earlier this year, will perform more live dates to support the EP’s release.
