Premier: A.J. Holmes – A Good Year for the Mushrooms

A.J. Holmes (aka Vanishing Breed) is a musician, field recordist and founder of band A.J. Holmes and The Hackney Empire. His new solo album ‘A Better Standard of Ordinariness’ is due 22nd April via Onomatopoeia Records.

This is the first album that A.J. Holmes has recorded entirely alone, playing all instruments. It was recorded between January – May 2020, a large part of which was during the first Covid-19 national lockdown. However it also reflects view points from a world before the coronavirus pandemic, as the songs were written between mid 2017 and late 2019. In preparation Holmes has shared the single ‘Welcome to the Void / A Good Year for the Mushrooms’

Get set to learn the names of several mushrooms with the hypnotic spoken word tumble with this soothing yet surreal blend of pastoral folk music. The spoken word canon of the repeated names is done so gently you can’t help but be caught up in it. If you want something different but still brilliant check out A.J. Holmes.
