Premiere: Dave Manington & Lara Eidi reveal new collaborative track, ‘Look to the horizon’

Bassist and Composer Dave Manington has teamed up with singer-songwriter Lara Eidi to produce a new track, ‘Look to the horizon’, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.

Recorded remotely during lockdown in Athens and London, ‘Look to the Horizon’ is a wistful, psychedelic and nostalgic ballad about hope, renewal, and looking to the hopeful gaze of the horizon in store. Of the track, Dave says “I wrote the music for ‘Look to the Horizon’ in one short session, it actually began as an exercise in playing the interval of a sixth on the guitar! I came back to it a couple of years later and decided it would work nicely as a song with lyrics so I sent it to Lara, who has written some beautiful lyrics which have really taken the piece into a new direction. Whilst producing the track it has naturally evolved in a much more rock/psychedelic/electric direction sound-wise which has been exciting and a bit different from what we expected.”

The track has this psychedelic whimsy about it, with Eidi’s vocal to the fore, as the track veers and nudges at jazz and folk and pop, while this organ sprawls all over it. Underneath, gentle strums of the guitar and minimal drum set guide it all forwards. If you need something to drift away to, relax and luxuriate in this new, rather beautiful partnership.
