We here at the southern outpost of Backseat Mafia are very honoured to bring you a first listen to the new single ‘Regulars’ from Gadigal/Sydney band YEEVS ahead of their new album ‘The Borderline, Thereabouts’, due out on 30 August 2024.

‘Regulars’ has a delicious shimmering sound – delicate guitars trip gently through the air with the gentle velvet vocals coasting over the top. A jingle jangle element is augmented by some ethereal harmonies and glorious anthemic melodies. There are definitely elements of antipodean bands like Youth Group delivered with an antipodean vernacular and a synth/horn fringe in the distance.

Bradley Cork from the band says of the track:

Regulars was written with regard to unintentionally hearing other people through the walls. It was written in 2020 so it stands to reason why that may have been a theme but the song also speaks to the elation felt when something goes right for your nearest and dearest. You can tell who’s on your side when they can revel in life with you when things are going right.

The writing revealed a new direction form the band:

Musically, this one felt like a turning point when it came to writing together. Purely out of restriction we were using a drum machine loop for fortnightly sessions together. Tom (our drummer) would then be on the keys which he plays really well. It influenced a softer approach to how Sean and I usually play. With this configuration it felt like we were able to change how we sound as a band through a renewed way of working together.

Ultimately, ‘Regulars’ is a completely refreshing mix of seventies rock, alt country twang and sparkling indie dream pop: an unique sound that glitters and sparkles in the firmament.

YEEVS · Regulars

This is really terrific stuff and another example of the Marrickville Sound (veteran antipodean bands still creating beautiful music). ‘Regulars’ is out tomorrow and will be available to downloads and stream via all the usual sites – check here. If ‘Regulars’ is any indication, the new album promises to be something special. It’s the band’s first album in five years. According to the band:

‘The Borderline, Thereabouts’ is about boundaries both physical, mental and emotional, and the resilience that is needed in navigating each fork in the road.

You can pre-save the album here and catch the band launching the album on release date – details below.
