We are very proud to premiere the sparkling single ‘It’s All Been For Nothing’ from Sydney band Indian Pacific, a shimmering ride that is threaded throughout with a satisfying melancholia.

Horns frame the sound, providing a golden burnish, and there is a pop dynamism that is redolent of The Saints, replete with jingle jangle guitars and a slight alt country twang.

The band says of the track:

‘It’s All Been for Nothing’ is a song about doing the hard yards. The idea that things don’t typically work out on their own. Usually someone has to do something to fix things and even then it still might not work out and you end up with nothing.

The lyrics are vivid and personal:

Find out – that you were going the wrong way all the time
Find out – that there’s still a lot of hills to climb
Find out – that you need to go back and start again
Find out – that it’s all been for nothing
Nothing – Nothing – Nothing

It’s a vibrant slice of filtered sunshine, reflecting the Antipodean genes rooted deep inside the music:

‘It’s All Been For Nothing’ is out now via the link above and through all the usual download and streaming sites on Thursday.

Indian Pacific are perfect example of what I call the Marrickville Sound – musicians with a reputable history reforming or creating bands exhibiting the same sort of creativity and park as they did in their youth (often based in or playing in inner city areas). Perth-born Charlie Wells played in The Hunting Party until 2008, briefly fading out into the sunset before the creative urges overtook.

It’s all a bit of an unplanned accident. I was actually ‘retired’ from music. just want to make music and having band is a good motivator and vehicle to take my music out into the world again.

Through a mutual friend, Wells brought onboard drummer Andrew Axton (Atlas Strings, Flicker), followed by a previous bandmate of Andrew’s, Glenn Murray on bass.
