Supergoup Marlophone follow up their debut single ‘I’m On You Side’ (proudly premiered by us here) with a thunderous blast in the beautifully romantic ‘If We End Up On The Run’. Consisting of Patrick Haid (Key Out), Saskia Clapton (The Great Emu War Casualties) and Nick Kennedy (Big Heavy Stuff, Imperial Broads and Knieval to name but a few), Marlophone have a dreamy, ethereal delivery that, in this single, is backed up with a buzzsaw shoegaze wattage.
It’s the first song the band wrote together and they say of it:
This song is a soundtrack to an escape, set in the quiet moments beside the big bangs.
It’s not about a dramatic chase or destination, but about listening, watching the sky, and committing to escape with someone. The danger is the background, being there is the focus. It’s about excitement, loyalty, beauty and being willing to take the fall when you end up on the run.
Marlophone create a cinematic vision in their sound – bright open skies and endless horizons touched with yearning and more than a little melancholia – perfect ingredients for perfect pop:
The self-made video captures the air of whimsy and delight as the tastefully leisure-suited father and son gamble with an air of whimsy:
‘If We End Up On The Run’ is out now and is the second single off the forthcoming Wayne Connolly-produced album’ Remembered Adventures in Widescale’ out on 14 August the wonderful Love As Fiction Records (AU) and Shore Dive Records (UK).
