He’s full of surprises, that John Dwyer. While we’ve all been waiting to see what comes next with his troupe The Oh Sees, instead he’s spirited himself away, surrounded himself with synths, and recorded a new album, Cold Hot Plumbs in his Damaged Bug alter ego, which is out right now on the Castle Face label.
It begins with these sweeping waves of synths, before launching into this classic dark pop, all buzzing basslines and echoey vocal lines, as things move in octaves, always with an eye to more, or different, layers being added. Its held together by the waves of synth that begun the song, as Dwyer lays down some memorable melodies.
