Here at Backseat Mafia we love the brothers Brewis – Peter, David and associates aka Field Music, and any excuse to rattle on about them, we take. As it is, there’s a load of stuff happening at camp Field Music as the band release a new video for their latest single ‘Not When You’re In Love’. It comes ahead of the release of their new album, Flat White Moon, out on Memphis Industries on April 23rd.

Piano driven, but with those essential Field Music elements of being slightly off kilter, clever, but with generous doses of smart funk, harmonies and a lovely sense of melody that creeps up on you all in place, ‘Not When You’re In Love’ ticks all the boxes, and they throw in (because they can), this sense of anxiety that only really dissipates with the last chord.

Lyrically, the track questions the ideas and semantics of love, and the accompanying video, directed by Andy Martin, mirrors that. Check it out, here

In addition, the boys have launched a new regular podcast, the FIELDMUSICAST, which – at least for now, will focus on the stories behind their new album Flat White Moon, and add in the music that inspires them as well. In episode one, the pair look at album opener ‘Orion from the Street’, and discuss favourite Minnesotans, kitchen-sink vocabulary and recording at quadruple speed. Episode 2 sees them dicussing “No Pressure”, trips to Barnard Castle, Brian May and Jimmy Page getting funky and trying to play fast enough for pub rock.

Click HERE for your various podcasting options including a Spotify version which plays the songs mentioned in the episodes.

Flat White Moon is available to preorder on yellow vinyl, CD along with exclusive sets of coaster and T shirt bundles from the Field Music shop HERE, including discounted tickets for a live stream performance of Flat White Moon from the Brudenell Social Club. Field Music will be in conversation with John Harris for Rough Trade on 23 April. Tickets for that together with limited edition signed yellow vinyl HERE.
