See: The enigmatic Second Idol unveils gritty video for the thumping single ‘Out of Time’

Second Idol‘s powerful EP ‘Defence Mechanism’, reviewed by me here, is a refreshing blast of indie rock, and the band has just released a video for the brilliant track ‘Out of Time’. It’s a simple performance piece that reinforces the fact that this is a band with an enormous presence and enigmatic style. Cool, louche and a sneering attitude-laden stance make for a compelling performance by the band, with a gritty, grainy overlay.

Lead singer Kate Olivia says of the video:

We wanted to create a performance-based clip that borrows from the aesthetic and energy of Nine Inch Nails “March of the Pigs’. The idea was to present the liminal space of the band as a live entity. Given the reputation we’ve garnished as a compelling live act, we wanted to document the energy that exists between us on stage and put that at the forefront of our presentation as a band.

Indeed, this certainly whets the appetite for a live gig:

The recurring, repeating guitar riff and the insistent driving rhythms make this a brilliant piece of post punk rock. You can get the EP below and catch the band live at the following gigs:

SAT 19 JUN | CHIPPO HOTEL, SYDNEY NSW
FRI 9 JUL | THE TOTE, MELBOURNE VIC
SAT 31 JUL | DICEY’S SATURDAYS, WOLLONGONG NSW
SUN 1 AUG | SIDEWAY, CANBERRA ACT

Second Idol is Kate Olivia, Maxine Gillon, Theia Joyeaux and Afeef Iqbal.
