Meanjin/Brisbane producer Clovr is continuing his steady rise through Australia’s electronic scene with the announcement of debut album paper elephants, arriving 11 June, alongside new single ‘closer’, a reflective house track that trades heavily on atmosphere and emotional restraint rather than sheer intensity.

Built around pulsing percussion, soft-edged synth textures and a vulnerable vocal performance, ‘closer’ feels intentionally understated. The track moves with the momentum of club music but avoids leaning fully into release, instead holding onto a sense of introspection that gives it weight beyond the dancefloor. It’s the kind of track equally suited to festival fields or solitary late-night listening, balancing warmth with a quiet emotional distance.
Speaking about the single, Clovr describes it as a reflection of time spent in Munich, shaped by feelings of connection and disconnection simultaneously. That tension runs through much of his music, where futuristic production often sits alongside something more organic and nostalgic underneath. Influences like Flume, Caribou and Hermitude are audible in the balance between textured electronics and emotional immediacy, though Clovr’s work feels less concerned with maximalism than atmosphere.
The upcoming paper elephants album will also include previously released singles ‘complicated’, ‘get sum’, ‘Friends’, ‘Say So’ and ‘Cold’, tracks that have already picked up support across Spotify, Apple Music, triple j, NOVA and iHeart. Taken together, they sketch out an artist increasingly refining his identity within a crowded electronic landscape, one more interested in emotional detail than algorithmic trend-chasing.
Away from the studio, Clovr has steadily built a live following through performances alongside Lime Cordiale, Go-Jo, Bag Raiders, Luude, Wongo, Example and Hermitude, while also appearing at festivals including Groovin the Moo. With paper elephants, he now seems poised to pull those strands into a more complete statement.
