TRACK: Come for a dip with Snow Coats’ ‘Pool Girl’

BURGEONING Oxford indie imprint Alcopop! Records – having recently secured the services of angular Bristol geniuses Home Counties – has brought another very fine little band into the fold in the shape of the Netherlands’ Snow Coats.

The Dutch four-piece, who released their debut LP Take the Weight off Your Shoulders in 2018, will release their debut EP, Pool Girl, for Alcopop! on September 11th.

And the lead track is out now on all the usual digital platforms. You can watch the video below.

If you like your indiepop to get your Docs flexin’ with a fun singalong chorus, this is your kinda tune for sure. “I would say that I’m a pool girl / While all my friends swim in the ocean, and see the world” she imparts candidly, as the beat bounces.

There’s even a mandolin in the mix – ‘allo, ‘Allo Darlin’.

Vocalist and guitarist Anouk va der Kamp says: “‘Pool Girl’ is a song about how I reflect on myself. Some silly things and some more serious; like my anxieties and how I can panic over the smallest things. I hope that there are people who can relate to my lyrics.”

The quintet, completed by Frank Peters and twins Daan and Joost Ebbers, met while studying music in Arnhem. Like Belle & Sebastian, Snow Coats  has its roots in a college project, but they loved it so much they decided to carry on fashioning tunes together.

First Pip Blom, now Snow Coats: the Low Countries’ summery indiepop scene is on a high.
