St. Louis heavyweights dead7 are turning the volume up on the noise inside their own heads with new single ‘Cannibal’, a bruising collision of thick guitars, electronics and darker introspection.
Frontman Jason Kozik draws directly on his experience with major depressive disorder, using the track to explore the way negative thoughts can persist even when everything around you appears to be going right. Rather than dressing that struggle up, ‘Cannibal’ goes straight for the internal fight between recognising the good in your life and having your own mind refuse to let you enjoy it.
Musically, dead7 push beyond their usual boundaries without sacrificing weight. Guitarists Dexter Greer and Tim Quinn pile on the riffs alongside bassist Stephen Salyer and drummer Zach Guinn, while electronics and atmospheric keys cut through the heavier edges.
‘Cannibal’ follows the band’s debut album ‘LOVE WHAT YOU CAN WHILE YOU GOT SOMETHING LEFT TO LOVE’, released through SharpTone Records. After building their audience independently and clocking up millions of streams, dead7 sound increasingly interested in seeing just how far they can stretch their heavy foundations.
