Singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin returns with the release of her new single ‘Call Me’. Not only does it give an exciting taster of new music to come this year, it also marks a new era in her career, one which has seen Gabrielle hit a massive landmark of one billion streams.

Gabrielle Aplin shines with a newly revitalised and evolving confidence on ‘Call Me’. As well as mixing artfully articulated introspective emotions with rich luminous melody, the song sees Gabrielle blending an instant synth hook with her signature, emotive piano keys. Backed by her equally powerful vocals, the track scales up from tranquil verses into the full drama of its soaring and euphoric chorus.

Gabrielle says, “In the various lockdowns I found myself wishing I’d done things and hadn’t done things when I had the chance. Big things and small things. I wish I’d gone on that random night out, I wish I hadn’t said that mean thing, I wish I called that person back, I wish I had sat out and enjoyed the sun.

It’s like, if only I could go back in time and experience these things when I had the chance to. It’s as if I didn’t have the memories and experiences, I thought I’d need to get me through the extended solitude of early 2021. It’s kinda like, if you change your mind, I’ve changed my mind too so call me.”

‘Call Me’ is the first fruits ofGabrielle’snew naturalistic approach to writing and recording new material. Having moved back to Somerset late in 2020, she began to write alone at home. Freed of the external factors that would subliminally influence her writing, she instead embraced the solitude, leading her to craft songs which purely reflect who she is as a person and as an artist.

That organic approach was completed when she headed to The Larks Tongue recording studio in Buckinghamshire, a location surrounded by the serenity of the countryside and its wildlife. Working with BRIT Award–winning producer Mike Spencer (Years & Years, Cat Burns, Rudimental, Ellie Goulding), the pair would recreate the environment that Gabriellewas in when she first wrote the song. This was a process which allowed her to reconnect with that headspace to produce some of her most self-assured song-writing in a career which has seen her amass a huge global fanbase.

Highlights of her achievements to date, include the UK #1 smash hit which launched her career, ‘The Power of Love’ as well as a further four international #1 singles, a Gold–certified debut album ‘English Rain’ plus her most recent album, 2020’s ‘Dear Happy’, has now exceeded 200 million streams on Spotify alone.

With new album rumours in the pipeline, expect more exciting news to come from Gabrielle Aplin soon…

Irish based concert photographer, maybe! ever so slightly addicted to gigs. Listens mostly to alternative / goth / folk punk / punk / ska. I blame the 80s.
