London four-piece, Guise have just released a new track, ‘I Know When You Leave’. The band is made up of Jess Guise (singer), Laura Hanna, (co-vocalist), Titas Halder (bassist), and Keith Barry (drums.)

Emily Barker, who has just finished a tour of Australia, joined Guise on this sublime new single. The song features vocals by frontwoman Jessica Guise, harmonising with Hanna and Barker. The three voices float above the very sparse instrumentation. Resulting in a gorgeous, spine-tingling song that speaks to the despair of being separated from a lover.

“I wrote the words to ‘I Know When You Leave’ on a bus in Italy, and the tune came to me later back in London, Separation from the person I love is a pretty normal part of my life, but that doesn’t make it easy all the time; things are generally just a bit worse when we’re apart, and that’s what this is about.”  explains Jessica

‘I know When You Leave’ is a follow up to the single ‘Don’t Come Back’ which was released earlier this year. Jessica Guise has spoken of how ‘Don’t Come Back’ is about the romantic entanglements that she experienced in her 20s. Despite the potentially miserable subject matter, it is a bouncy song with a great chorus, perfectly complemented by a jaunty, funny video.

The two singles are from an album ‘Youngest Daughter’ that will be released on the 29th April via Xtra Mile Recordings. In 2020 the band released an EP ‘The Fun Part’ which garnered much praise. Jessica Guise is married to musician Frank Turner who also produced ‘Youngest Daughter’. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered in the couple’s garden studio.

“Youngest Daughter is a (mostly) autobiographical, story-so-far record. It’s home to memories and moments spanning decades of my life; it includes some songs I’ve been carrying around safely in my back pocket for years, and others that I’ve recently finished and am throwing straight out into the world. It’s an honest, personal, and self-deprecating wander through the various ways I’ve tried to follow my heart over the years.”

‘Youngest Daughter’ will be out on 29 April Pre-save it here.

Guise will be heading out a UK tour in support of Will Varley, with shows in London, Liverpool, Newcastle and more. Full dates listed below.
