Sepia tinged soul always prods at that weak spot in us here at Backseat Mafia, and the new single from Indonesian trio Thee Marloes, out now on the inimitable Big Crown Records and available on a beautiful 7” vinyl is so good it’s like a punch in the stomach.
Sung in Indonesian, which only seems to add to the smoky, laid back vibe, it’s saunters along with this understated groove and hushed vocals that drift over and nod your head for you. Best of all though is this killer melody that hits you with the ‘hang on, I know this don’t I?’ feeling, such is it’s quality. Throw in just a whiff of eastern promise and you have something rather brilliant.
