The track — both dark and emotive — tells the story of falling for someone dangerous but irresistible, set against indie-pop grunge textures and haunting lyricism. Its accompanying video features a ‘real life’ zombie, underscoring the song’s playful yet unsettling edge.
Currently on tour with Simple Plan, Bowling For Soup and 3OH!3, LØLØ will soon head out on her own headline U.S. dates starting 6 November in Buffalo, NY, before appearing at Warped Tour Orlando on 15 November.
american zombie arrives in the wake of her earlier 2024 single the devil wears converse and the deluxe edition of her debut LP falling for robots and wishing I was one. With more than 150 million global streams and a catalogue that includes three EPs and standout singles like “u turn me on (but u give me depression)” and her cover of “Dancing in the Dark,” the Toronto-born songwriter has carved out a distinct space in alt-rock and pop-punk.
“‘american zombie’ is probably the most unhinged love song I’ve ever written. I wrote it after one of the strangest & most unforgettable nights of my entire life. The song is about being drawn to someone who’s maybe even half-dead inside—but still makes you feel more alive than anyone else ever has. They’re completely wrecked but still somehow completely captivating. This song is my way of capturing that weird, electric moment—falling for someone you know could be broken and guaranteed to destroy you, but doing it anyway.”
