Chicago’s Meat Wave have released the second single from Malign Hex, their first album in over five years which is set for release on 14 October via Big Scary Monsters. The thunderous ‘10k’ is a punk rock gem, with its earth shaking sonic landscape and vocals full of power and passion.

Of the track, Meat Wave’s Chris Sutter (guitar, vocals) expands:
“’10k’ is about being alive for 10,000 days, which is around your 28th birthday. Feels like a long time – but is it? You feel like you know so much about life and navigating through it – but do you? Nah, not really. The title of the record directly relates to ’10k’.

“A malign hex pertains to your lineage. It’s something that is pertinent to only you, it’s handed down to you, or was raised in you. In that way, and pertaining to the record as a whole, I’d like to think it’s a human, universal feeling.”

The trio, Sutter alongside Joe Gac (bass) and Ryan Wizniak (drums), follow up 2017’s album The Incessant with Malign Hex and the band further comments on its inception, which only adds to the anticipation leading up to release date:
“A culmination of what we’ve been doing for 11 years. We’ve been working towards this. Our sound in the beginning was consistently very driving. Now, that characteristic is merely a tool we can reach for. I don’t think it completely defines what we’re doing.”

Meat Waves new album Malign Hex is out on 14 October via Big Scary Monsters.
