Track: One of Hartlepool’s greatest exports, James Leonard Hewitson, is back with new single ‘Fill My Head With Sugar’ and launch dates.

We here at Backseat Mafia have been massive fans of the pop punk sounds of Hartlepool’s James Leonard Hewitson for a number of years now, and it is great to see him back in the saddle and better than ever.

His new single ‘Fill My Head With Sugar’ drifts ethereally into a more restrained dream pop fugue, filled with jangling guitars and anthemic choruses and burnished with a tremolo blush. Hewitson’s capacity for self-deprecatory humour remains intact as Hewitson sings of his addiction to Friends and other TV shows creating a sugar rush that puts him in a ‘TV coma’ and provides an excuse for comatose indolence:

It’s the aroma
Of my recluse

Said to everyone around me
I got an excuse
Fill my head with sugar
Fill my head with sugar

While the attitude is still flavoured with a punk sensibility, Hewitson veers towards a more dreamy pop vibe in his new single:

‘Fill My Head With Sugar’ is out now and available through the above link and through all the usual download and streaming sites.

Hewitson has some live dates coming up – go and check him out – details and tickets below:
