Track: PistonFist Hit the Highway on New Single ‘The Road’

Brisbane’s PistonFist have spent the better part of six years carving out their own brand of heavy, petrol-fumed rock across stages at home and abroad. Since forming in 2018, the quartet’s “petrol rock” — thick riffs, big engines, and straight-ahead volume — has carried them from local rooms to opening slots for Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction, and more recently, to a two-month run across Europe.

Their new single ‘The Road’ arrives as a reflection of that stretch of touring life: packed vans, long drives, tough sleeps, and the rush of stepping onstage in a different city every night. The track pulls from that blur of motorways and clubs, capturing the momentum of a band living out of suitcases and running on late nights and loud rooms.

Listen to ‘The Road’ HERE.

Riffs drive the song forward with the same kind of insistence that kept the band moving from the UK through eastern Europe and back again. The track feels shaped by the miles — heavy, direct, and built for anyone who has ever watched a landscape slip past a van window at unreasonable hours. It’s a road-trip track in the most literal sense: built for motion, built for noise.

For PistonFist, the song is a snapshot of a tour that reshaped them. “We had an absolute ball on our six-week run through Europe and the UK,” the band says. “These are just some of the highlights and good times we had the opportunity to have on the road. We love the road — love the freedom.”

‘The Road’ marks a band leaning into what they do best: riffs, volume and the kind of lived-in grit that only comes from long stretches of highway.
