Swiss electronic-pop riser MATONDO shares the fizzing new single ‘DOPAMINE’. Bringing a noughties nostalgia with a fresh hyperpop edge, the single offers a first glimpse into her forthcoming EP.
‘DOPAMINE’ opens with a punching, pulsing electronic beat with a thick sub heavy kick, shimmering glitching hi-hats and a tight snare under the half-rapped vocals to create an instantly edgy, gritty feel from the outset. As the track progresses, layered synth textures rise and swell, weaving an atmospheric backdrop around the ethereal melodies, ultimately forming a soundscape which captures an experimental edge whilst keep a sharp accessibility. The result is a dynamic balance between electronic intensity and alt-pop clarity: the track is cinematic yet restrained, intelligent yet catchy.
Lyrically, the track engages with the overstimulated rhythms of modern digital life. Speaking about the release, MATONDO explains: “Staying focused on the things that matter in today’s world seems to be getting harder and harder. ‘DOPAMINE’ is about the feeling of the dopamine rush triggered by reels and delves into the depths and turmoil of social media.”
