Radiohead are finally coming back to Australia. Fifteen years after their last visit, the Oxford band will return in May and June 2027 for a mammoth 16-show run across Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
The scale of the tour makes up somewhat for the wait. Radiohead begin with four nights at Perth’s RAC Arena from May 3, before settling into Rod Laver Arena for six Melbourne shows. Sydney then gets a six-night residency at Afterpay Arena, beginning May 25 and bringing the Australian tour to a close on June 1.
It will be the band’s first Australian appearance since 2012, an absence that feels particularly conspicuous given Radiohead’s enduring place in alternative music. Across nine studio albums, from the early guitar squall of ‘Pablo Honey’ through ‘OK Computer’, ‘Kid A’, ‘In Rainbows’ and 2016’s ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’, they have repeatedly pulled apart expectations of what a rock band could sound like and rebuilt them in increasingly strange shapes.
The Australian dates follow Radiohead’s return to the stage for a series of European residencies late last year. Rather than squeezing a continent into a handful of appearances, the 2027 itinerary follows the same residency approach, with multiple nights in each Australian city.
For Sydney fans, six nights at Afterpay Arena represent an extraordinary return. Radiohead play Tuesday May 25, Wednesday May 26, Friday May 28, Saturday May 29, Monday May 31 and Tuesday June 1, giving the city almost a full week with a band whose Australian appearances have become exceedingly rare.
Fans will need to register for access to the ticket sale, with the process covering both general and accessible tickets. Registration opens at 5pm today (September 7th) and closes at 5pm on Thursday, September 10th. All times are AEST.
